Here at Old Bank Academy, we embrace lots of different external provisions to benefit our pupils so that we can give them more opportunities to grow and learn. That’s why on Thursdays we have a cricket afterschool club with ProVision Sports.
Cricket in primary education can provide children with a variety of skills needed to develop a lifelong love of sport and physical activity. While being fun and inclusive the sport also helps children develop essential fine motor skills, improve endurance and stamina, increase balance and coordination and learn how to communicate quickly and clearly.
But it doesn’t stop there, check out some of the other benefits our pupils learn in the after school club with ProVision Sports when it comes to cricket:Â
Builds self-confidence
Learning new skills is great for everyone, but for children, in particular, it’s always a source of great pride for them to go home and tell their family about the existing new skill they have learned. Not only will learning core cricket skills build their confidence, but it also encourages their self-esteem to grow as they improve.
Improves mental wellbeing
Not only does sport give students the chance to release lots of energy it also has a positive effect on children’s mental and emotional health. Sport reduces stress and releases lots of happy hormones which makes children feel good while increasing their focus and attention.
Boosts social skills
Teaching our primary students to be part of a team and to support each other helps our pupils to begin to understand their relative role in the world. This new understanding, helps them understand the perspective of another team member which is important in life.
